Social Security Matters

Dear Rusty: If someone is collecting long-term disability through their company and the company states the employee also must apply through Social Security, how does this work? Does the amount of Social Security decrease from the amount that the person would normally receive upon retirement? Is long-term disability for life, or just until you are of retirement age? How about for the spouse of that individual? Would it have any impact on them? Signed: Concerned

Capitol Update from Rep. Luttrell

This week we have convened for both the second and third special sessions of the 58th Legislature. The second is to consider American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) appropriations and the third is to consider inflation relief. The House passed several inflation relief bills in the 2022 regular session, and we are committed to continue delivering inflation relief for the people and businesses of Oklahoma. I know firsthand the concerns and impact that inflation has had on the residents of the 37th District. Business owners, neighbors, friends and family are feeling the weight of burdensome regulations, and we know you need help quickly. With that in mind, the House has advanced a number of bills aimed at addressing inflation concerns this week.

Following the successful conclusion of the 2022 regular session, we immediately convened in special session to continue work disbursing the state’s nearly $1.9 billion portion of American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) pandemic relief funds. The Legislature established the Joint Committee on Pandemic Relief Funding last summer to assist in Oklahoma’s planning for the relief funds.

After months of work, we adjourned session on Friday, May 27 as our state’s constitution requires. With so many people involved, we never quite get everything accomplished that we want, but we got really close this year. Overall, I’m very happy with what policies and reforms we were able to get to the governor’s desk.
